Hairy Old Goat Shampoo Bar
We collect the carragheen (Chondrus crispus) seaweed from the intertidal rocks along the Pembrokeshire coast.
This shampoo bar contains only natural ingredients, including vegetable oils, vegetable butters, essential oils and other ingredients especially beneficial to the hair and scalp. It will not strip away the natural oils in your hair but it might take a little time before your hair is rid of the chemicals and residues from your previous hair products. Shampoos and conditioners with silicones and other plastics in them leave a coating on the hair that will need to be removed before the natural shampoo soap bar will work. Depending on what you’ve been washing your hair with, you may need to go through an ‘adjustment’ period, so don’t give up after a week.
Wet your hair in the shower, rub the bar over your hair then lather with your fingertips and rinse. You don’t need to repeat the process, but you might – everyone is different! To finish, some people will use a simple acidic rinse to restore the pH of their hair afterwards. This is really easy – simply add 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar to a 1litre jug of water and pour over your head.
Other natural rinse conditioners such as lemon, rosemary or nettle can be used but use them as cool as you can manage as the low temperature helps to close the pores in your skin. Don’t rinse any of them off.
Shampoo bars are good for the environment – think of all those plastic bottles you won’t be using now (and the conditioner ones too), plus they are easy to take travelling, go through airport security and take up less room. Of course, the bonus is that you can use the shampoo bar over all your body, not just your hair.
